Steampunk style canvas by LORI WOODS

Hello creative friends! Today I have a project for you in my favourite style- steampunk!
I started with a reversed canvas and used a stencil with modelling paste to create a background pattern. I then dabbed some of the paste unevenly over the edges of the canvas to give it some texture.
I used various mould pieces to create an arrangement and painted this with Silver Spoon to create a base. Once this was dry I added areas of Flame, Brass Hardware and Gold Rush paints, with some water to spread the colour around. I then gave everything a coat of clear gesso to take some of the shine out of the colour and create the effect of old metal.
I watered down some Emerald liquid acrylic and used this to create areas of shadow and highlight some details on the moulds. Then I finished by brushing some Mint Sparkle and White Gold wax over areas of the canvas.
This is a really effective way to create a metal look and give your steampunk project a unique finish :)
