In the Woods by CHARLEEN WALES

In the Woods by CHARLEEN WALES

I am absolutely delighted to be sharing my first DT page using the September Scrapaholix kit.
I love something a little different and this kit is just so lovely. It was just perfect to get the creative juices flowing.
I wanted to create the idea of looking through the knot hole of a tree into the forest and seeing the leaves blowing in the wind.... A walk in the woods is always so magical for me and I always think of the "Teddy Bear's Picnic" Song because you never know what you might see or find on a walk in the woods...
I started off by cutting an oval into the wood grain paper and two of the coloured cardstock pieces  in the kit. I distressed all the edges using my distressing tool and inked the edges of the card. I love creating texture and dimension on my layouts and one of my favourite techniques is distressing paper and the elements on the page. I cut strips off the sides of the paper and then layered the three pieces of paper on top of each other to create depth on my page.
In the kit you will also receive a 6x12" piece of faux leather. I received the green with white leaves printed on it. The texture of this is so beautiful and when I saw it I just had to fussy cut some of the leaves. I added some stitching detail to the outline of the leaves creating more dimension and texture to the page.
Adding to my background I stenciled leaves, using a blending brush through an extremely old stencil from my stash and Distress Oxides from The Mad Scrapper: Shabby Shutters, Rusty Hinge and Brushed Corduroy, I also added a little Mowed Lawn and Tattered Rose for the little flowers, which were from my stash. I just love the effect of the colours.
After distressing my photo, I backed it with white tissue paper, creating a soft and subtle lift off the background.
To finish off my page, for my title I added little mini alpha stickers which were from my stash and backed the gorgeous Moxie Burlap Alphas, from the kit, onto black card and added sticky back foam to make it pop off the wood grain paper.
I did have a bit of conflict here at home about "if you go down TO the woods or if you go down IN the woods". I've gone with "in", as we are walking in the woods...
My page wouldn't be complete without those gorgeous little bears poking out of the background. I also added some wooden leaves to tie in with the wood veneer bears. The wooden embellishments were from my stash.
This kit is so versatile it can lend itself to any season and any theme.
Can't wait to share with you my next project.
Happy Scrapping x
