Suffragette tag BY LOUISE CROSBIE

Hi there.
Today I’m sharing this giant tag with you.
I’ve used the card packaging from my Finnabair metal flowers as my base and layered some beautiful 49 and market paper over it.
I wanted something soft and feminine to match the theme of the paper, but something that also showed the strength that women have along with their soft feminine side, and the colours on the paper (green-teal tones with small hints of purple) lead me down a suffragette rout.
I started by putting a good coat of clear gesso over it as I knew I’d be doing some mixed media. The paper wouldn't tolerate too much inking and getting wet without the gesso.
The next step was to add some texture through a stencil using 3D gloss gel. This also served as a resist for the next step.
When my gel had dried in clear, I used a paintbrush and some Lindy’s sprays. I didn’t spray them though, as I wanted more control over where it went. I put some in my paint pallet and brushed it over the areas I wanted to add it then gave it a light spray with a water mister.
I wanted my flowers to match my colour pallet and while some were close to the colour, I wanted them closer. So I also tinted some of my 49 & market flowers with the Lindy’s.
I did a lot of layering and glueing using mostly 49 & Market products, until I liked the balance of the composition, then, for finishing touches, I’ve added some old pearls from a broken necklace, some flat back pearls and lots of paint splatters. I sprinkled some crystal glitter while the glue was wet just to add a bit of sparkle to it all.
Keep in mind that Lindy’s sprays are water reactive. They are not permanent when dry so your wet paint splatters will activate them and absorb some of the colour.  Because of that I did quite a few layers of the splatters, drying between each layer.
I brought out some detail using white enamel accents then brushed Finnabair’s white Pearl paint over the flowers and leaves to tie them in with my salvaged pearls.
I inked the edges with black stamping ink using a foam pad , punched a hole in the top and threaded in some white lace.
It’s about 10 or 11 inches tall so it’s definitely a jumbo tag.
I hope this gives you some inspiration and gets your own imagination working.
Thanks for looking.
