Quick & simple steampunk style cards by LORI WOODS

Hello Mad Scrappers! Today I have some steampunk style cards that are quick and simple to make :)
I started with some Dusty Attic chipboard pieces, Cogs frame set and Cog Cluster, and gave these a few quick coats of white gesso. Then I took a selection of Tim Holtz distress sprays which would create nice rusty colours- Ripe Persimmon, Wild Honey and Vintage Photo. I sprayed these over the chipboard pieces, drying and layering the colour until I was happy with the results.
I then took a sheet of blank paper and onto this sprayed Cracked Pistachio and dropped a few spots of Speckled Egg Oxide reinker, followed by a few spritzes of water to get the colour flowing. When this was dry I used Archival ink to stamp a pattern using one of the Clocks and Borders stampsfrom the Sir Vagabond Stamperia collection.
Then it was time to put the card together - I cut the background paper into squares and layered these onto card blanks. Then, using soft matte gel, I arranged the chipboard pieces into a pattern I was happy with and glued them down.
I hope these cards give you some ideas on creating your own backgrounds and different ways to colour your chipboard pieces :)
