Large Altered tin by LOUISE CROSBIE

Large Altered tin by LOUISE CROSBIE

I recently watched a YouTube tutorial by Emilia Tapiola  (on the Finnabair design team) for a winter white tag. It was very pretty and I was inspired to do a similar (but different) project for myself.
Rather than doing a small tag, I’ve altered a tin. It’s about 8 inches by 5 inches (approximately) so I could use it as a gift container for a silk scarf or gloves. Something like that.
I started by gently sanding the tin all over. This gives any mediums I add a bit more purchase.
Then I used modelling paste through a stencil to add texture as well as some crackle paste. When it was dry I gave it a coat of white gesso before gluing all my embellishments into place.
When the heavy body gel (I used it as glue) was dry, I gave the tin a few more coats of white gesso, covering everything including the embellishments.
I was now free to add colour. I didn’t want it too cold looking and I also wanted a hint of vintage so I included some warm tones along with my blue.
I’ve also added lots and lots of frosty glitter which you can’t see in the photos.
I’m not sure I will give it away after all. I quite like it 🙃
