Art Stones - What are they and how do you use them?

Our April kit featured papers from Cocoa Vanilla Studio's gorgeous Legendary range, and also Finnabair's Art Stones and Mini Art Stones. These lovely textural elements look great when added to projects, but how do you use them? I have some suggestions below!

The stones are really lightweight, so they won't weigh down your project, which is great if you are adding them to scrapbooking layouts. They are also ideal for mixed media projects, and look really effective when different sizes are used together. (They also come in Mega size, and Texture Powder form!)

To apply you can use any glue or gel medium; I like to use Finnabair's Soft Gloss or Soft Matte Gel, or even either of her 3D gels (available at The Mad Scrapper here). This is because the gels disappear once dry - there is no visible overspill of glue. Use a generous amount of the medium, and sprinkle the stones on top, pressing lightly in to place.

The stones can be mixed with gels, gesso, texture pastes and paints, and the mixture can then be used through stencils or just randomly applied to your background. Ideal if you are wanting a more textural background instead of something flat.

They can also be sprayed with mists, painted with paint or even try rubbing a touch of wax to them, to change the colour:
